Previous Entry Add to Memories Tell a Friend Next Entry

nice to rejoin the world again! Been ridiculously busy ! (possibly because I am not such a great time manager)

I am all ready for the group show "There goes the Neighborhood" at The Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland in which I will have 6 paintings, 4 of them brand spanking new.

The artists in the show besides me are:
Willie Birch, Kristin Bly, Cao Fei, Dionisio Gonzàlez, Leslie Grant and Nina Pessin-Whedbee, Matthew Kolodziej, Eva Struble, Clemens von Wedemeyer, Catherine Yass

Matthew Kolodziej and Kristen Bly are also based in Cleveland.

I updated my website finally if you care to see the new work: www.amycaseypainting.com/2009

The show at MOCA Cleveland opens June 5th, if you are reading this in Cleveland and want to stop by.

Also I am pleased to say that I was awarded the Cleveland Arts Prize this year as an emerging artist.  I am proud to represent! yay Cleveland!

I think you were 27 when we met. I only wished you were 24. As far as I'm concerned it's all unbelievable no matter how real it seems. =D Happy Birthday! Walang anuman! (Which is tagalog for, "you are welcome". Which literally translates to "Ain't nothing too it.")

:) nope i was only 23 when i moved to chicago and 24 when i left, so it had to be one or the other although when we first emailed i gues i was possibly only 22. anyways, thanks for the birthday wishes. in the thai language, mai bpen rai is sort of the same sentiment (i think)- the literal translation is something like 'no is anything' and its a kind of an umbrella statement of no problem, its nothing, no worries, nevermind!!

NO! I refuse to believe it's been that long! hahaha! Hey if I had know that I would have been friendlier ;] The Thai language has me baffled but it's a cool language... I'd love to visit Thailand. I wish I was better at language. I think it helps to be immersed. However when I had the chance to be immersed, my little purloiner did everything to disorient and befuddle me. That's no help... Ah, if only there were no humans involved. yes, I think it was the beginning your senor year in college when we started e-mailing.

i think its pretty impossible for most people to really learn how to speak a language without some form of immersion. I am content with learning how to read Thai. I am still at a pretty rudimentary level now, but I have found a Thai reader which has been super helpful. I also try to read Italian. I think it will be a long long time before i have any sort of fluency(in reading) but I also like it because it is something to do to get my brain working in another direction. maybe form a few new connections, who knows.

It's funny how some people i know who have grown up learning multipule languages since they were children still seem to mix things up. One thing I really liked about the Phiippines was the multipule languages but I was surprised how much misunderstanding there was even there between people. Yes, I like learning another language for the same reason, makes my brain work in another direction. Reading is is enough for me too. That girl was important because of the language. I really needed to trust her and she went through a lot of trouble to convince me that she could be trusted. wellll... yeah, makes my brain blow different bubbles =) I should learn Italian. I am half Italian. I had another GF in the Philippines and her dad is working in Rome. He has been there 20 years and almost can't speak Pagasinise anymore. hahaha. Her cousin is the mayor in their town. Her uncle was the mayor but someone assassinated him. I guess the frauster at least didn't assassinate me HA! I don't know which is worse :p
